Reverend Father George KevorkianFather George
Kevorkian was born in
Brooklyn, New York to Edward and Gloria Kevorkian (maiden name Khoury).
He was
baptized in St. Nicholas Antiochian (at that time named “Syrian”) Orthodox
Cathedral , and was given the baptized name George.
He attended
St. Nicholas Cathedral in Brooklyn, where he served as an acolyte, attended
church school, and was a member of SOYO.
In the late 1970s, he served as Treasurer, Vice President, and
President of Eastern Region SOYO. In
1976, Fr. George was married to Hend (maiden name Stephan) in St. Nicholas
Cathedral. In 1982, he served as chairman of the Eastern Region Parish
Life Conference, on behalf of the host parish, St. Nicholas Cathedral of
Brooklyn. He also served on the
St. Nicholas Parish Council from 1983 through 1987, and as president of the
council from 1984-85. In
1987 the Kevorkian were relocated due to a job change, and became members of
St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Little Falls, New Jersey.
In 1988 Fr. George served as the Chairman of the Eastern Region Parish
Life Conference on behalf of the host parish, St. George of Little Falls.
He also served on the St. George
Parish Council from 1988 through 1993, and as President of the council from
1989 to 1992. In 1994, he was
inducted into the Order of St. Ignatius as a Knight. He began the St. Stephans 3-year program in 1995, and was ordained
to the Diaconate in 1996. He
successfully completed the St. Stephens course, and 3 years of residency units
in 1998. He was ordained to the
priesthood on Palm Sunday, April 8th, 2001.
He is currently completing a Masters degree in Applied Orthodox
Theology from the Balamand University in cooperation with the Antiochian House
of Studies. Fr.
George holds a
Bachelors, and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic
Institute of Brooklyn, New York (now named Polytechnic University), which were
earned in 1974. He have worked
for AT&T from 1974-1991, and NCR Corp. from 1991 to 2000.
He is currently the Managing Executive Director of New Business
Development for Telcordia Technologies. His
areas of expertise are Networking, and Computer Science.
With
his wife of 25 years is Hend Kevorkian, they have two sons,
